Getting three quotations for the same electrical panel and receiving three very different prices is common. It leaves buyers confused, and often they simply pick the lowest. That can turn out to be an expensive decision. The difference usually hides in the parts of the panel you cannot see from outside.
Why quotations differ so much
Sheet metal thickness is one place where corners get cut. A panel made from thinner steel looks the same when new but sags, rattles and rusts sooner. Busbar material and size is another. A quote using undersized busbars will run hot at full load and shorten the life of everything around it.
Then there are the components. Breakers, relays, meters and cables come in several grades even within the same brand family. Ask that each item be listed by make and rating. When you line up the quotes on this basis, the price gaps usually start making sense and the cheap one stops looking so attractive.
Sheet thickness
Ask for the steel gauge in millimetres, not just a description.
Busbar details
Material, size and rated current should be stated clearly.
Component makes
Breakers, meters and relays vary in grade even within one brand.
Surface treatment
Pretreatment and powder coating protect the panel for years.
Test records
Insulation resistance and functional test results should be available.
Drawings supplied
Layout and circuit diagrams should come with the panel.
What a proper test and finish includes
Finishing and testing also matter. Seven-tank pretreatment and powder coating protect the panel for years, while a quick spray coat does not. Routine tests such as insulation resistance and functional checks should be done and recorded. Ask for a test report; a good manufacturer already has one ready.
We are an electrical panel manufacturer working out of Greater Noida, and we write out every specification clearly in our offers. If you already hold a competing quotation, send it to us. We will show you where our offer matches and where it differs, so you can decide with full information.
Where it is commonly used
Before you place an order
When you receive a quote, ask for a line-by-line list of what is included. It looks like extra work, but it protects you. Panels are one of those products where the visible part, the outer box, tells you very little about the quality of what is inside. The specification is what tells the truth.
If you are buying regularly, consider building a checklist that you use for every quotation. Over time it becomes easy to spot where costs are being saved, and you can decide on your own whether those savings are acceptable for your particular application.
